Pontresina - 2025
This project aims to highlight the Church of Santa Maria in Pontresina, which is considered one of the most valuable religious buildings in the Canton of Graubünden. Inside, there are precious medieval murals, highly valuable Romanesque-Byzantine fragments dating from the 12th century, and a series of Lombard narrative paintings from 1495. Following the expansion in 1495, the church was completely repainted, and the ancient frescoes were covered. During the restoration, which lasted from 1962 to 1976, the “Mary Magdalene” series—comprising 18 images—was discovered on the western wall and the tower. The intimate scale of the sacred architecture entrusts light with the task of highlighting axes, heights, and symbolic points without altering the solemnity of the space. The Egoluce lighting fixtures create a measured and enveloping luminosity, capable of lending depth to the volumes and fostering concentration, orientation, and visual comfort. The result is a recognizable and harmonious environment, in which light becomes an integral part of the architectural language.
